India and caste

I am surprised at the amount of support from the veteran statesmen on getting the caste included in census. caste in India currently doesn't show the real status of a household.its high time that some better methods be devised to get the stats on real state of the society. most of the people in urban areas are no way bothered about their caste and all that matters is the economic status. sure this trend is to be cascaded to semi-urban and rural areas in near future.
